Former MLA Richard Lee told the Canadian media today that his family and he were detected by Chinese National Security Polices during his 30th wedding anniversary trip to PRC in 2015. The Chinese Communist Authority accused him of involving in the threat of national security. The claim was shocking the Canadian society.
Lee claimed that he was tortured and threatened during the detention. He was forced to hand out the cell phone password to the police in Shanghai international airport. It is believed that some classified information were obtained by the CCP.
Lee was not contacting the Canadian government after his return because he was afraid of that his incident may damage the relation between Canada and the PRC - At that time it was in a good shape. He decided to speak out the incident to the public after the arrest of Huawei chief executive Meng Wenzhou. The Trudeau’s government sent him a letter this week to confirm that his case has been carefully reviewed by the government.
