In Q2 2017, Amazon helped Chinese companies selling goods to overseas and it also allowed them to sell their products on its website. Almost at same time, EBAY was following its lead.
Since then, more than 1.5 billons counterfeit products are flooding to the world market every year. Half of them are shipped to USA and the other half goes to Asia and EU.
When we tracked down to the source. Alibaba is one major supplier of counterfeit goods! Hong Kong is the major transition hub of those illegal goods.
Why now would the counterfeit goods sellers like to choose Amazon , EBAY and major overseas websites for their goods? The answer is the timing issue. In 2016, chinese government carried out a big crackdown on counterfeit goods over its domestic market that created a big impact on Alibaba’s online e-commerce websites: Taobao. Millions seller accounts have been removed due to the restrictions and censorships!
Since then, those counterfeit goods sellers couldn’t sell their illegal goods online in China so they rushed out from mainland to overseas to find a new way for the new game! That is why the Amazon and EBay now are their destination! Both Amazon and EBay are aware about this trend and they are paying attention to those overseas sellers but some counterfeit goods are still leaked to US market and others!
For sure, it seems like more works are needed to be done in future.
